Health Insurance Customer Service “Our Way”.
Late last year an employee from one of our covered groups let me know she had been diagnosed with an aneurism that required delicate open heart surgery. Naturally, she was anxious about the procedure when she reached out to me, “her” agent. I was able to assure her the health plan would cover most of the charges and because I had firsthand knowledge of the surgeon who would perform the work, partially relieve some of her anxiety.
After successful surgery, it was my turn to contact her. Living alone in Milwaukee I knew would make her recuperation a challenge so she had decided to go east to live with her daughter for a few weeks. We helped her research providers who would be In-Network. When a brief post operative hospitalization was needed in another state, there was no worry about being “Out of Network” or even more out of pocket charges.
A month ago, she returned to work. Sure, the employer’s health plan has paid out a large claim but we’ve already started negotiating with underwriters so that the next renewal reflects this individual’s renewed health, not one large claim! A valued employee is back to work. She is happy. The employer is happy. So, I’m happy.
